Getting Started

Getting Started with Fit Your LifestyleCongratulations. You have already taken the first step by deciding to take action. Please feel free to contact me by telephone or email. Whether in person or via other media, I am happy to offer a complimentary initial consultation. We will specify and articulate your personal fitness goals and needs, and ensure that we are a good fit to work together. I will be happy to answer any questions you have, and I will have questions for you.

Once we have completed our screening, you will be deciding your fitness goals. Beyond safety, the only thing that matters to me is what you want to be able to do. Comparisons to others are irrelevant, whether it is comparison to a magazine cover or to a “statistical” average. I believe that if your body supports your personal lifestyle goals then you are physically fit. If it prevents you from living as you choose then we explore what we can do to change that.

Once we have agreed on a schedule and an appropriate frequency that works for us both, we will make a mutual commitment.

We will discuss our training procedures at greater length in person, but let me make one thing clear. I do not believe in “no pain, no gain”. Pain is bad. We do not “work through it”. Soreness from working hard is a different story. We all need to be able to tell the difference between soreness from working hard and pain from working improperly. You will work as hard as you can handle, but no exercise is carved in stone. While we will work the body in balance, if something feels inappropriate for your body we will find a modification or alternative. You always have the power of veto. I believe in working smart. “No brain, no gain!”

I believe in making the body work better. None of us were born with rounded shoulders, tight necks, sore knees and backs, or with tightness or imbalances restricting our range of motion. Once we address these issues, we free our bodies to move better, get stronger, build strength, balance, flexibility and burn fat. Towards this end, I am a royal pain when it comes to form and technique, but I should be the only pain involved.

If this sounds right for you then I would be happy to help fit your lifestyle.
